Vocations – Reimagining the Lied
Premieres of new art songs
Vocations was conceived in 2023 as a new format for all forms of musical and vocal artistic practices that draw on poetry—whether classical or contemporary song, classical or contemporary music, sound poetry, sound art, singer-songwriter work, performance poetry, or spoken word.
As part of workshops in 2023, new, moving art songs were created through close artistic collaboration between composers and poets.
On October 26, 2023, the first premieres of Vocations – Reimagining the Lied took place at Heimathafen Neukölln. The song cycle for tenor and electronics titled Animata, by poet and performance artist Felipe Saéz Riquelme (born 1986 in Chile) and multimedia composer VictorPiano (born 1991 in Chile), was performed by Francisco Huerta and VictorPiano.
On December 21, 2023, new songs premiered at Vocations – Reimagining the Lied at Heimathafen Neukölln. Author Nail Doğan (born 1988 in Augsburg) and composer Cenk Ergün (born 1978 in Turkey) collaboratively developed an art song for voice and double bass titled derializiös, which was premiered by Cansu Tanrıkulu and Nick Dunston.
