Ulrike Draesner

Ulrike Draesner, born in Munich in 1962, has received numerous awards for her novels, essays and poetry. In 2025, she published the verse epic “penelopes sch()iff” with Penguin, and in 2024 the novel “zu lieben”, also with Penguin. Most recently, she received the Christine Lavant Prize, the Gisela Elsner Prize, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Literature Prize and the Grand Prize of the German Literature Fund for her complete works, which include multimedia works and translations. Her novel “Die Verwandelten” (2023) was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize. Following various international visiting lectureships and poetry lectures, Draesner has been a professor at the German Literature Institute Leipzig since 2018. She is a member of the Berlin Academy of Arts, PEN Berlin and the German Academy for Language and Literature. Draesner lives in Berlin with her daughter.
