Valzhyna Mort

Valzhyna Mort was born in Minsk in 1981 and moved to the USA in 2005. Her most recent book, “Music for the Dead and Resurrected,” came out with Farrar, Straus & Giroux in 2020 and was the winner of the International Griffin Poetry Prize and the UNT Rilke Prize. Mort has been honored with fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the American Academy in Rome, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Lannan Foundation. Currently, she is the Director of the Creative Writing Program at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Mort writes and publishes in English and in Belarusian.
