Please note that the event is designed for a French- or German-speaking audience and will not be interpreted into English.

Three poets from Québec, Valérie Forgues, Mireille Gagné, and Vincent Lambert, will read and perform their poems at the Haus für Poesie together with the translator Rike Bolte, accompanied musically by Cymin Samawatie and Milian Vogel.

Valérie Forgues (born 1978 in Québec) has published three collections of poetry, including Radiale (Le lézard amoureux, 2021) and, together with Stéphanie Filion, Jeanne Forever (Le lézard amoureux, 2018). The latter takes as its starting point the film characters of French actress Jeanne Moreau, developing them into a reflection on female identities and role models. Her most recent work is Un choix d’amour (Triptyque, 2023, „Eine Entscheidung aus Liebe“), a memoir on non-motherhood, which was nominated for the Prix littéraire de la Ville de Québec.

Mireille Gagné (born 1982 in Québec) writes both poetry and prose. In her fifth poetry collection, Bois de Fer (La Peuplade, 2022, „Eisenholz"), which was awarded the Prix Philippe-Aubert-de-Gaspé, the poetic voice is half tree, half woman, afflicted by parasites, alienation, and exhaustion. The poems weave together, with dense metaphorical layers, ecological critique and self-care: „Beim Akupunkteur vertreibe ich die / Blattläuse. Nichts hilft.“

Vincent Lambert (born 1980 in Québec) is a poet and essayist. His fourth poetry collection, La troisième à partir du soleil (Le Quartanier, 2023, Third from the Sun), was awarded the Prix Alain-Grandbois by the Académie des lettres du Québec. Third from the sun is the Earth, whose protection the poems invoke, as well as the human being’s existential belonging as a creature born of the Earth: „ich stimme für eine dunkle Stunde weltweit / um den Orionarm zu betrachten“.

On the day of the event, made possible through the partnership with Rhizome, eleven poets from Québec will be published on lyrikline. The event will be interpreted simultaneously in French and German.

With the kind support of ECHOO Konferenzdolmetschen. In cooperation with Rhizome. Supported by the Government of Québec in Berlin, the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec, and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
