The exhibition Every Artist Must Take Sides – Resonances of Eslanda and Paul Robeson at the Akademie der Künste is dedicated to the work and impact of Eslanda Cardozo Goode Robeson (1895–1965) and Paul Robeson (1898–1976).

Through their artistic and activist work, they fought against all forms of oppression. The couple linked the anti-racist struggle in the United States with anti-colonial movements in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean, with international labor struggles, and with anti-fascist freedom movements in Europe.

The exhibition, featuring archival material and twelve artistic positions, can be seen until January 25. The sound and spatial installations, video works, sculptures, collages, and photographs address questions of solidarity, collective freedom, and mutual responsibility, thus entering into dialogue with the work of Eslanda and Paul Robeson. To conclude the exhibition, a festival with discussions, performances, spoken word, and a choral concert will take place on January 23 and 24.

In cooperationwith Akademie der Künste, the poets Fiston Mwanza Mujila, Koleka Putuma, Armeghan Taheri, and Temye Tesfu will present their texts.
